"So long as your happy." Chloe chuckled as Chase leaned against her, "Heavens. The last thing we need is for you to fall and break something. Now just try to remember to pick up your feet. Because believe it or not, I'm not going to carry you."
Not that she could have even if for some bizarre reason she had wanted to, let alone needed to.
As they neared the cafeteria Chloe could smell coffee brewing and the faint trace of donuts that had been re-warmed. Coffee, bleh. She hated the stuff. And donuts, eh. Maybe they'd have a bagel or two left still.

Chase stopped leaning against her as they walked to cafeteria. "Don't worry, young whippersnapper, I think I'll be fine. These feet haven't let me down yet." As they neared the back of the building where the cafeteria was Chase smelled food and found himself growing even more hungry. It had been pretty stupid to skip breakfast.
They entered the room, where a scattering of students sat around, sipping coffee and eating food. They entered the line and Chase grabbed a blueberry muffin, pausing and grabbing a second. He looked back at Chloe and shrugged. "One is totally not enough."

"Nice to know." Chloe replied letting her head tilt a little closer to Chase's chest.
Standing up straighter, she followed Chase into the cafeteria. Tagging along beside him much in the same way a devoted puppy would. Spotting a small carton of milk Chloe picked two up.
"Got to strengthen those bones."
Chloe had found she was hungry as well. Maybe it was the power of suggestion or maybe having not eaten since sometime yesterday afternoon had caught up with her. She hadn't meant to skip dinner and breakfast, it just sort of happened. But than her parents had conveniently gone out of town for the weekend and hadn't left much of anything in the cupboards or fridge; and no cash for emergencies. They were usually pretty good about that. But than when it came to anything involving Jace they often forget just about everything but what it was that he needed at that time.
Noticing there wasn't a bagel to be had anywhere, she snagged a cup of yogurt and a blueberry muffin to go along with one of the milks she had picked up earlier.
"One is never enough." Chloe stated firmly, "Of anything."

Chase grinned and nodded, handing the cafeteria lady a $20 bill to pay for everything. Once he got his change they walked over to a table, Chase took a seat on one of the chairs and opened his orange juice, taking a sip and sighing contentedly. Picking up one of his muffins he started to pell the wrapper away.
"So, how've you been anyway? Up to anything exciting lately I haven't heard about?" Chase took a bite of his muffin, his eyes set on Chloe, watching her. Sometimes he wondered what her home life was like, the few times he'd been to her house, her parents had never been around. He had to admit that he found himself worrying about her sometimes.

"Been good. What about you?" Chloe asked opening one of the cartons of milk than passing it towards Chase, before opening the other.
"Nothing much. Lounged around the pool this summer a lot. Had the usual fifty-nine flings." Chloe said the last part with a smile, "Or so the rumor mill tells me anyway."
Pulling the top off of her yogurt she slipped her spoon in and stirred it around for a bit before taking a bite.
"'Fraid I've been all kinds of dull this summer." Chloe replied with a sigh as though she were upset by it.
In truth she had enjoyed the two weeks she'd spent at her grandparents farm more than anything. There had been so much talking, some fishing, a little bit of baking and a lot of enjoying one another’s company.

Chase smiled at the offered carton of milk, thanking her for it. "Only fifty-nine? You're slipping." Chase winked, knowing she hadn't had any flings at all, she just flirted a lot. Well he actually hadn't had any idea whether or not she'd slept with anyone, but Holland had filled him on everything properly.
"Sounds like an exciting summer. Mine was good, Ace and I played soccer in the city's house league. Of course our team won. It was fun, playing with other guys. Went and watched him coach little league a few times, I was actually surprised at the patience he had for those kids, he was great with them." Chase stopped talking to take another bite of his muffin.
"But then once he went off to Europe with his mother I decided to play the big brother role a bit more. I'm sure she probably told you about it, but Holland and I went camping for a week, just the two of us. That was probaly the best idea I've had in some time, I know she needed it. She and mom haven't exactly been getting along, not that mom helps at all. Everything these days is either about me graduating this year or Limm being her perfect self. I feel bad for Holland, she's totally the forgotten middle child." Chase paused again, frowning. He really wasn't happy with the way his parents treated his oldest little sister, but there was little he could do.
"So anyway like I said, we went out in the wilderness for a whole week. I was impressed, I didn't think she'd last that long. But we had fun, I think she's finally realizing that I'm not the enemy anymore." Chase smiled, picking up his carton of milk and taking a drink.

Chloe looked almost crest-fallen, "I know. It just isn't as easy as it used to be to snag ninety-three guys in a matter of only three months. I'm telling you I've got some stiff competition."
Fiddling with the paper on her muffin, she found that lucky her, she had snagged the one muffin that had its paper wrapper baked into its side. Giving it another little tug, she was rewarded with almost three fourths of her muffin free. Glancing at the remainder in the paper she decided it just wasn't worth the hassle and took a bite out of the free portion.
"Congratulations on winning. Wouldn't have expected anything less from the two of you." Chloe took a sip of her milk between thoughts, "Wow. I'm impressed. Had no idea Ace was that good with kids."
Nodding her head, Chloe had heard all about the now 'famous camping trip'.
"She's tougher than you think." Chloe stated.
Holland could take care of herself. Or at least Chloe figured she could. She certainly acted like she could. But than was it only an act? Chloe knew that act well; she'd been playing in it for almost eight years herself.

Chase watched her fiddle with the muffin wrapper, amused when she gave up and started eating it still in the wrapper. "Oh I know she's tough, she just likes her electricity is all. Did she tell you about our adventure on the boardwalk, when she nearly fell in the marsh? I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't, but it was funny as hell. Well it was for me." Chase stopped, smiling at the memory of Holland dangling over the side of the railing that ran along the marsh boardwalk. It had been pretty amusing.
"You enjoy camping at all? If so the three of us will have to go out together sometime, maybe bring Ace and Sunny too. It would prove to be pretty entertaining at least." Chase finished one muffin, picking up the other and starting to peel off the wrapper.

Chloe tried to hide the smile that was forming on her face as Chase told about Holland's almost dunking along the marsh boardwalk. That would have been a sight to see. Of course she would have felt bad for her friend. But still it would have been amusing in part to see.
"I don't know." Chloe answered with a shrug, "Never been. Looks like it would be fun though. Roasting marshmallows, sleeping underneath the stars. Of course the no indoor plumbing is a drawback. But still aside from that, might be fun."
Chloe took another couple of sips from her milk, before taking another bite of her muffin. It certainly tasted better than she had expected. The middle was even still slightly warm.

Chase looked at Chloe with a shocked expression. "You've never been camping? You are so missing out. There are actually showers and toilets there, so you won't get grungy." He grinned, pulling apart his muffin. "We even played charades one night at two in the morning, by our fire. It was pretty dumb, we were coming up with some stupid things to act out, but it was fun. It was just nice to see her happy and smiling, the kid's getting too pessimistic." He paused to finish off his milk, puting the carton by his muffin wrappers.
"So it's settled then, we'll go out for a weekend soon while it's still warm enough out. Would your parents mind?" Chase waited for her answer, wondering what she'd say to the question.

Chloe shook her head no as she finished the last of her muffin. Camping wasn't exactly something she could imagine her parents ever doing. They were 'things' people and the great outdoors was anything but interesting to them.
"Nice to know I won't come back looking, or smelling like the swamp creature."
"Would your parents mind?" Chloe half choked on the milk she was drinking at the question. Her parents mind? About anything? Very doubtful. They probably wouldn't even notice she was gone.
"My parents? Are you serious?" Chloe rolled her eyes, "Just tell me when and I'll be there."

Chase watched her reaction to the parents question, not surprised they wouldn't care. No wonder the girl went to such lengths to get attention from everyone. "Excellent, I'll talk to Holli and Ace about it, and we'll go off trekking in the wilderness sometime soon." He stuffed a piece of his muffin into his mouth, looking around the cafeteria. He saw Tuneful sitting in the back with some of her friends, playing cards. He continued glancing around, finally looking back at Chloe. He smiled as his eyes rested on her, thinking again how cute she looked in his big coat.

Chloe chuckled, "I guess that means I better find some jeans and maybe a 'real' shirt, huh."
At least she had a pair of sneakers in her closet, somewhere. Jeans she had. The only question was, were any of them not ripped in various places? All of the knees were ripped and most had rips somewhere that came dangerously close to showing off her underwear in the back. It's not like she could seen in 'real' jeans if she wore them to school.
Finishing her milk she waded up the stubborn piece of muffin that wouldn't come out of the wrapper and stuck it into the empty carton.
Wrapping her arms loosely about her, she rested her elbows on the table. Glancing towards the clock she knew her 'free' morning was coming to a close and she'd have to show up for her next class before too long. Not that she minded, she actually rather enjoyed school for the most part.

Chase nodded, "yes you will. Unless of course you want bugs crawling around your skin." He winked at her before finishing his muffin. "If you're really at a loss I'm sure Holli wouldn't mind you borrowing something of hers, she borrows your clothes often enough after all." Chase looked a little disapprovingly at her with that comment, only intended in a joking manner of course. It just wasn't fair that his sister had to be good looking. What guy would want to watch his little sister walk around in skimpy clothes?

[[cont. from Chip's Office thread]]
Chip stepped into the cafeteria, looking around curiously. Oh, it didn't have the same vintage look as his old cafeteria in the boarding school, but he had to admit there was a certain appeal to it nevertheless. Like the feeling that there weren't bars in the windows to prevent students from escaping.
Well, of course there hadn't been actual bars in the boarding school windows, either, Chip reminded himself, but it sure had felt that way. It had been darn difficult to slip off without being noticed.
He smiled to Riley.
"So, choose your poison," he told her playfully. "My treat."
His eyes stopped on the couple at the table for a while. He thought the guy was rather cute. And he also thought that the girl was quite... shameless. He hoped she was better company than Scarlet, whom she reminded him of with her scanty clothes.
