Cara had to grin at the exchange between Slugger and Sparky. She was slightly surprised to hear about the Mormon past of Sparky's. It certainly didn't show. She felt an immediate surge of sympathy toward her, however. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to be cut off from your family. Family was exceedingly important to Cara, she couldn't imagine herself ever losing them. She had to wonder when Sparky asked her question, though. Maybe she would have to lose them eventually? After all, if she ended up falling in love with a girl instead of a guy, and decided to spend the rest of her life with her? What would her father say?
"Oh, I know my brothers are cool," she started to answer, actually thinking aloud as she spoke. "I've talked stuff over with them, they'd be more likely to be suspicious of you seducing me into having illegitimate sex and staining myself than hate you or anything. They had a bit of problem with the whole thing but after I told them I liked girls too they sort of thought it over again and decided they rather have a gay sister than no sister." She grinned a bit, but then grew more serious. "I don't know about papá though. He can be pretty strict, but I don't know... he doesn't agree with the church on every account as it is, but I don't think the thought of homos has ever even crossed his mind." She smiled a bit and shrugged. "I guess I'll just have to take my chances one day and find out."
Inwardly she shuddered at the thought, however. She loved her father dearly and knew it would break her entirely to be shunned by him. Still, she couldn't believe he really would turn his back on her even if he knew. She couldn't.

Sparky reacted shocked to Cara's answer. "Wait a second, you really are a lesbian? I had no idea..." It was true, she never would have guessed that Cara did indeed like girls. As she looked at her though the stereotypes were there, but Sparky knew well enough that stereotypes weren't always true. Her own girlfriend didn't really fit the stereotype much, and when she thought about it, neither did she. She was just very overt with her preferences. "Damn, why didn't you tell me straight out before? Well I guess it would have been kind of weird. I mean really, what would you have said? Hey Sparks, I'm a vag-lovin' lesbo too!" Sparky laughed, always amused at her own commentary.
"That's great though, does anyone else know? You definitely shouldn't let it get out on the squad, unless you want to face the wrath of Bimbo with me head on." Sparky winked at her, before getting somewhat serious again. "I'm glad your brothers are smart enough to realize that. Flint was the same way, he was really torn when dad kicked me out. He was younger too so he wasn't really able to stand up to him right away. But I managed to convert the boy and grow him a spine, so now he rather delights in telling our father he's going out to spend time with me. He's actually really pushing dad's buttons I think, he doesn't even refer to me by name or anything, he keeps calling me The Enemy, because he knows it pisses our father off. Needless to say, I made sure the kid packed a suitcase with some stuff and I keep it at my place, in case dad ever has enough and tosses him too. It wouldn't surprise me. No one I knew from the church talks to me anymore either, which is really so weird. They're actually pretty accepting of people outside the faith doing anything they deem wrong, because they look at them as people to convert and save. But when someone on the inside goes bad, you get punted quicker than a football at the Superbowl. Needless to say, I'm rather glad to be out of the church, I was never religious to begin with."
She stopped talking for a moment and bit her lip. "I'm sorry, I have such a bad habit of talking about myself all the time. If anything ever goes bad with your family, don't hesitate to come to me. I just hope you have better luck than I did." She smiled a friendly smile before looking over at her brother. In honesty, she had really started rambling about religion to keep from freaking out over the news. Cara was gay, and she'd spent the whole afternoon flirting with her. What if she mistook it as real attraction? Cara wasn't exactly her type, was she? No, Sparky had a tendency to be attracted to the really girly lesbians, and Cara wasn't that girly. But what if Cara was attracted to her? Should she just continue on as normal, and keep flirting? She didn't want to make Cara uncomfortable after all. So she looked back at her friend and grinned her usual grin, easily looking like nothing was wrong. Sparky had become quite the master at covering up her feelings in public. She only let them out around certain people and aside from Flint, none of those people were here right now.

[[err, well, Cara isn't really all that butch... I mean, she doesn't have a long hair and she likes sports and doesn't like make-up prattle with the other girls but she's still pretty girly. But admittedly Sparky probably hasn't seen that side of her much. *lol*]]
Cara was slightly surprised that Sparky hadn't yet figured out that she liked girls too. When the other girl went on, however, she realised she was making too far-going conclusions and opened her mouth to say something, when Sparky started talking about her own family. She felt genuine compassion toward her. Sparky had really had it rather rough. Much rougher than Cara thought she could herself ever endure. Cara thought herself fairly strong, but she wasn't strong that way. She knew losing her family would probably break her apart totally. She loved them too much. And though she wasn't overly religious herself, she still respected her father's religion more than disliked it. In fact, she hardly had any problems at all going to church with them.
"Oh, don't worry about talking about yourself," Cara said when Sparky finished. "I mean... it's bad what happened to you. Honestly, I don't know if I could handle it, being just kicked out like that. But it doesn't necessarily have to even happen... dad doesn't necessarily even need to know." She shrugged. "I mean, I still like guys too... maybe I'll get lucky and fall for a guy, huh? Just because I don't like Vinnie don't mean I can't find some other nice boy to fulfil my dreams." She winked. Now that she realised Sparky had not known she was interested in girls too, she couldn't afford letting her know of her crush, and so she was trying to make light of any possible suggestion of such. She looked more serious though when she looked at Sparky and set her hand on the other girl's arm. "I'll remember your offer though. I... I think I'll need a shoulder to cry on if worst does come to worst."

*Heh, Sparky likes her girls really girly though, Jules for instance is totally into make-up and high heels and matching accessories and facials/manicures and all that typically girly stuff; Sparky's not butch either and she has zero interest in butch girls and she doesn't think she'd ever date an athlete, but that may change, hehe, especially since she doesn't really see much of Cara outside of cheerleading:)*
Sparky shrugged. "Eh, you deal with it. It was hard at first, and actually if it hadn't been for Ace letting me move in with him, I don't know what I would have done. That definitely allowed me to firmly stand up to my father. If I hadn't had him, I might have always tried to go back and plead with my father to let me repent. But I didn't and I'm glad. If my parents can't accept who I turned out to be, then I'll gladly have nothing to do with them." After all she didn't really have a choice in the matter, did she? Religion was more important to her parents than she herself was, yet another reason why Sparky had become such a fervent atheist. Religion did nothing but divide people, after all.
"I really hope your family is more understanding, though, if you do end up with a girl. You could always go for a butch with short hair and muscles and say it's a guy with too much estrogen. Those things happen." She laughed and put her hand over Cara's. "My shoulder is always available though."

[[Hehe it all works well that Sparky isn't interested of Cara at all currently, because I love this whole one-sided crush of Cara's. ^-^ Whether or not she will ever really be interested, well, time will tell but I won't mind if Sparky never returns her affections. We want the angst, don't we? ]] Cara had to laugh to what Sparky suggested about a butch girl. "Sí, I might do that yet!" she giggled. When Sparky put her hand on Cara's, Cara had to swallow just a little. She had to wonder how things would end up if she ever would have to depend on Sparky to rescue her like that. And what would ever drive her to it, since at the moment the only girl she was interested in was Sparky herself. She couldn't tell why, except maybe because of all of Sparky's energy. She put up a smile though. She didn't want Sparky to suspect anything. "Thanks, Sparks."

"Don't worry, Cara. No matter what ends up happening, things will work out one way or the other." Sparky smiled and squeezed Cara's hand before pulling it away, looking back at the others, wondering if anyone had listened in on their conversation.
Moki didn't take long to show Gin to their house, which was located directly behind the hotel. The house itself was built in the same style as the resort, blending in beautifully to the trees and beach. They quickly got to her room, finding Gin something warmer to wear in the evening breeze. They made it back to the rest of their friends in good time, walking back into the room. "We're back, everyone! And Ginny is no longer about to keel over from hypothermia, so it's alright. You can stop worrying. That's two people I've saved today!" Moki grinned as she walked back over to the couch, sitting down on her brother, who protested rather loudly but didn't push his sister off his lap.
Flint had a smile on his face as he watched everything going on, a little curious as to what exactly was happening with his sister and her cheerleading friend. But he looked at Melody and wondered if Sparky was at all curious as to what was going on between them. What was going on between them, anyway? Was she just carelessly flirting with him for fun? He'd always thought he would be happy to even just talk to Melody, but now that he had talked to her and had some interaction, it was harder to imagine not ever having anything more. Would she ever go out with him? He was a year younger than her after all, and one of her friend's little brothers. Would she be too weirded out? She'd always dated older guys anyway, so maybe he didn't have a chance after all. He didn't say anything but leaned against the counter where she sat, wondering if he should say anything.
*So what do you guys want to do with them all? Cres has said she's okay to leave this here and skip everyone ahead to Halloween soon, but what do you guys think? LNS, do you want to do anything with Flint and Melody? Or anyone else? Let us know!*
