"Yeah, fathers tend to have a way of messing things up around here," Ace stood where he was, watching Chip, wondering what had caused the odd reaction from him. Maybe if he kept up casual conversation about the subject, Chip might offer more. "My own father left six years ago and I haven't heard from him since, even though he'd promised me one day, out of the blue three months before he left that no matter what ever happened in life, he'd always be there for me." Ace had never mentioned that particular bit of information to anyone; as far as he told the story to others, his relationship with his father had cooled a few years before the man left, but that was a lie. Their relationship had still been good, if a little distant. His father's lie to him still broke his heart to this day. But he wasn't about to get into his situation when he was still curious about Chip's.
"Then we have my friend Sparky's father. Very strict Catholic minister. When she told her family that she's a lesbian two years ago, the first thing he said to her was 'get out of my house', didn't even try to understand, he just disowned her right there on the spot. She had to sneak back into her house on Sunday mornings when her father was at church so she could get her stuff. To this day he still won't even look at her." He thought back to that day when Sparky had shown up on his doorstep, too distraught to go anywhere else. She'd ended up staying with him for two months before moving into her current place. It had been an odd time-- she'd been distraught over her family, but he'd enjoyed finally having some company. Sparky had been the first person to witness first-hand just what his home-life was really like, realizing how lonely he was at home. It had been good to finally allow someone to have a glimpse at what things were like.

Chip wasn't sure how he felt about Ace's words. But Sparky's story lured out a comment.
"Yeah... Catholics... tend to get that way." He smirked with one corner of his mouth. "Being Italian, it's near to impossible not to be Catholic, but I suppose I'm doing a pretty good job, being gay and all." He sighed and shrugged. "That's the thing, you know," he then said, choosing to open up on that point. What harm could it do? "My old man... he doesn't know yet. But some day... he's bound to find out. He's already setting up dates for me."
Chip grimaced as he recalled the pretty Italian chick his father had set up for him. There had been nothing wrong with the girl, except that she was a girl.

Ace put on a sympathetic smile, knowing exactly how hard it must be for Chip to hide his secret from his father. "Yeah, I know how hard it was for Sparky before she told them, doubly hard because she was dating her best friend at the time. So she was always over at their house, her parents never thought anything of it. It got pretty hard for her though, especially since her father started talking about how this gay couple kept showing up to his church and how disgusted he was by it. So I know it much really suck for you, to still be hiding it. Especially being Italian and all." Ace walked back over to the couch, deciding that sitting down would be a good move. He looked back at Chip, still smiling. "I'm pretty lucky though, my mother knows all about my attraction to both genders, she thinks it's cute." He laughed, remembering the first time he'd admitted to his mother that he'd kissed another guy, remembering the way she'd reacted, telling him that she'd expected him to turn out at least partly gay.

Chip smiled and followed Ace to the couch. He was warmed by his words more than he cared to admit - the tough guy as he was - and wrapped his arms around Ace's waist again.
"See, in the home I come from," he said quietly, "they don't just throw you out and disown you for being gay... they also come after you." He chose not to elaborate on the reasons. "So if I like my hide... which I do... I try to cover it up and change neighbourhood when I can't anymore."
Inwardly, Chip was wondering how long it would take him to get Ace to bed. And also, how much emotional stuff did Ace want. Some guys liked gushy, some rather kept it cold and simple.

Ace couldn't help but smile as Chip sat beside him and put his arms around him once more. He listened to Chip's words and couldn't help but feel very bad for him. He brought a hand up to Chip's face, running his fingers over Chip's jaw around his mouth. "I'll keep your secret safe because I rather like your hide too." He leaned forward and placed a light kiss on Chip's chin, a genuine smile on his face. He reflected for a moment on how lucky he was, even with all his problems at least his mother would always support him through any decision he'd make. He couldn't imagine what it must be like to have to hide something so important from your family.
Well he knew what it was like to hide something important, but he knew that even if that story came out one day, which he sincerely hoped it wouldn't, his mother would still support him.

Chip felt all warm and fuzzy. He hadn't felt like that in a long time. If ever. His bedmates had usually been little more than fucks, and the only one he'd really cared about - the unfortunate junkie - had really thrown all of his affections right back at his face. Ace was quietly awakening a flame in Chip that he had thought he didn't even have, fighting a losing battle against the entire world as he was.
He lifted up Ace's chin with his other hand and looked at him right in the eyes.
"Thank you," he said in an oddly softened voice, and then he kissed him, this time less like a horny guy and more like a lover.

When Chip thanked him Ace felt happier than he'd been yet that day. As nice as it felt to be wanted because he was beautiful, he prefered when that want took on more personal meaning. From the look in Chip's eyes and the softness of his kiss, it was evident Chip wasn't just interested in him sexually anymore. Once the kiss ended Ace pushed himself onto Chip's lap, putting one arm around his shoulders and leaning his head to Chip's. Placing a kiss to Chip's temple Ace shifted his head slightly so he was looking into Chip's eyes. "Hope you don't mind my love of cuddling, it's a favourite passtime."

Chip smiled and looked at Ace deep in the eyes. He felt nice.
"No..." he said, tracing his fingers along Ace's jawline, "I don't mind. I... just haven't done it in a while."
In a while. Who was he trying to kid? He hadn't done it nearly ever. As he looked at Ace he realised just how lonely he had always been. How empty most of his relationships had been. He remembered, painfully, how once he had been the geek that no one ever wants anything to do with. That everyone calls names and throws with wet towels after gym class. And now he was sitting here with the most popular guy in school? Was this just an ego trip for him? Was it fair on Ace if it was?
Did he care?

Ace nuzzled his head closer to Chip's, kissing his chin and pushing his head up so that he was looking up into the other's eyes. He noticed that Chip looked a little lost in thought. "What are you thinking?" He wondered if Chip would play along and let him in on any thoughts at all, or if that moment was gone.

Chip glanced at Ace, startled from his thoughts by the other's words.
"Us," he slipped before he had a chance to think it through. Then he smiled a bit with one corner of his mouth. "A soccer star and a computer whiz. An unlikely mix."

Ace smirked, amused by the answer. "You know, to be honest I don't really think of you as a computer geek. You have too much social skill and personality." He winked and pinched Chip's cheek. "So you never told me much about that boarding school of yours and I'm terribly curious."

Chip couldn't help but feel himself a little silly, still being hung up on old wounds like that. He tried to push them off of his mind as he shrugged.
"Ah, there's not that much to tell, really," he said. "We lived in stuffed little rooms and had a hard discipline and a tight schedule to deal with." He grinned. "Of course, they never stopped Dan and me from having us some fun. We used to sneak out from our rooms in the evenings, and go to the town near to the school. He'd get himself some chicks and we'd drink a little and joke around with the local law a little... well, nothing too serious, you know, but I do happen to know my way around cars and wires."
He chuckled.
"We never stole anything, of course," he added when he realised how that might have sounded like. "It was just a little fun. We'd hotwire the sheriff's car and drive it down the road. The poor man always spent an entire night looking for it, and was convinced it had been stolen."
[[will you mind if I bring in Scarlet soon to create some more drama?]]

"You stole the sheriff's car?" Ace looked at Chip, slightly surprised. He certainly had never expected to hear that. "Um, that's interesting. So you're a delinquent then?" He grinned, shaking his head. "You know that would totally tarnish my reputation."
*Yes bring in Scarlet! :)

Chip grinned and chuckled.
"Well, we didn't really steal it," he defended himself. "We only... borrowed it a little." He grinned again and then looked at Ace intently. "Well, then, for your reputation, I guess we had better keep it a secret."
He smiled and was about to lean over to kiss him again, when suddenly his ears caught the click-click-click of high heel shoes he recognised all too well. Just when a very loud and demanding knock from the door resounded, Chip jumped up and away from Ace, pushing him on the couch. He was on his feet by the time the door opened and his step-mother stepped in.
Not that she appeared very motherly. She was wearing her usual scarlet miniskirt with the matching top that did quite good justice to her ample bosom, and she walked in a manner which was clearly meant to draw attention. She smiled with her painted lips and fluttered her equally painted eyelashes as she floated into the room, her wonderful scarlet hair cascading around her, matching the scarlet fur lining of her top.
"Chip, darling!" she said and opened her arms to welcome an embrace Chip did not feel like giving her. Still, he had little choice. He went to the woman and embraced her quickly, kissing her on the cheek like was proper. Scarlet attempted to hold him a little longer, obviously not noticing Ace at all.
"Scarlet," Chip said after managing to pull away from the woman's embrace. He stepped aside so he could wave a hand towards Ace. "This is Ace. Ace, this is my... step-mother, Scarlet."
Scarlet's expression shifted a little, though there was no telling what she was thinking. A wide smile spread on her lips.
"Charmed," she said, extending her hand expectantly, waiting for Ace to take it and kiss it like the gentlemen she was used to would.

Ace had also heard the clicking of shoes but hadn't thought it would have anything to do with them, so he was a little surprised when Chip jumped up and pushed him back on the couch. Deciding that Chip must have a good reason Ace quickly drew his feet up under him, not wanting to give the impression that he'd been lounging on the couch too comfortably. When he saw Scarlet enter he wondered who she must be, hoping it wasn't some fake girlfriend Chip had never mentioned to him. When he was introduced, however, it was all he could do to suppress a grin.
He saw her extend her hand and knew enough from his European upbringing that he was expected to kiss it. But he didn't appreciate the interruption and he always preferred kissing the cheek with his family, so he decided to play ignorant and ignore it altogether.
"As is to be expected..." He hoped his cocky attitude wouldn't get Chip in any sort of "trouble" with his step-mother, but the woman just put out such a predatory vibe that Ace had no interest in being friendly. Maybe if he was flat-out rude she'd leave and he could have Chip to himself again.
