Rooker noticed he was twisting the bread into a knot in his hands.
"Uhh." He wondered if that was becoming a regular part of his vocabulary. A shame, with the amount of dictionaries he'd read in his life. "Maybe we should talk about the story. Did you... did you want some special kind of... heroes? Like... perfect heroes... or... just... regular guys becoming special, or... something."
He was feeling quite uncertain, feeling her eyes on him. What did she think of him? Was his hair all right? No, probably not. He corrected his glasses unconsciously.

Arielle snorted. "What's the fun in perfection?" She smiled. "I'd like a regular guy for the hero. Someone who makes mistakes and is clumsy, but in the end, he comes through."
She shrugged her shoulders and hugged herself. "Those are the only guys worth paying attention to, in my opinion.... They're real."

Rooker glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "Does that apply for real life too?" he asked a little shyly. [[short. But to the point. ]]

Arielle smiled brightly. "Yes."
She looked off at the birds in the pond. "In fact, I think I might have found him." As she spoke, Arielle acted as if what she was saying was no big deal. Her stomach on the other hand, was doing back flips.

Rooker was not good with hints that girls gave to him about liking him. He looked at Arielle a little anxiously.
"Errr. Who is he?" he asked, completely oblivious, though inside feeling jealous.

Arielle laugh softly as she looked at Rooker. "You."
She couldn't help but to smile at him. He was just so adorable, and innocent.. and... real. It amazed her that she hadn't tried to talk to him sooner.

Rooker blinked once. Then twice. Then some more. And then he stared.
It took a while until he managed to process the information fully. And when he did, a blush rose to his cheeks again, until he was red as a crab.
"Uhhhhh." He gulped and tried to smile. For the warm and fuzzy feeling in his stomach, the smile turned into a grin, until he realised he might look stupid, and stopped grinning. Instead, he tried to look serious. "I, uh, I, uh..."
Realising he was repeating the same thing over and over again, he gulped again and tried to stop to think.
"I like you too."
It was all he could manage, though painfully obvious. He blushed some more - if it was possible.

Arielle bit her lip out of excitement. "Really?" Rooker's feelings honestly were a shock to her. "I had no idea." A smile slowly spread across the girl's face.
As Rooker changed several shades of red, she couldn't help but to giggle. "You're so cute."

Rooker wasn't sure if he should have felt good that the girl thought him cute - or be embarrassed more that she seemed to find his blushing amusing. He chose a safe middle ground and smiled sheepishly.
"I-uh... I... uh..." He closed his eyes for a moment, kicking himself mentally. How about some actual sentences? That had a verb, preferrably?
"Would you... go out with me... sometime?"
He realised he was still holding his eyes closed, but he didn't dare to open them anymore.

Arielle watched as Rooker closed his eyes. But what he said threw her off.
Go out with him? Really? Had he just asked her that?
The boy's sudden spurt of bravery made her smile. "Of course." She toughed his arm lightly. "Open your eyes."

Rooker felt a hot flash go through him as she answered and touched his hand. But he noticed he just couldn't open his eyes.
"I can't. I think my eyelids fused."
Or maybe my brain did.

Arielle chuckled quietly. Now both hands were on Rooker. Without warning, she touched his face and moved closer.
Their noses were almost touching as she spoke. "Open your eyes."

Rook held his breath. Butterflies were bumping into each other in his stomach. Briefly he wondered why even his mental metaphors were clumsy.
Then, very very carefully, he opened one eye, and then the other. He was shocked to find how close she stood. He was completely frozen, his heart thudding so loud he was sure she must hear it.
"Eek." It sounded like a mouse's peep, and it took a while for Rook to realise it came from his own throat.

Arielle grinned and stepped back a little, but kept her hands on his arms. "See, that wasn't so bad."
She removed her hands and held out an arm instead. "Come on, let's go back to the cafe."

Rooker, who had half expected this to turn into one of his boyish fantasies, was just a tad disappointed that she didn't kiss him, but immediately he scolded himself. In real life girls didn't do that. Especially nice girls.
He nodded eagerly when she invited him to come back to the cafe with her. He took her arm, to follow her like a little puppy. He decided he'd write a full new chapter that weekend about Arielle - or about the sorceress who represented her in his story.
"Yeah, I didn't get to buy you anything. What would you like? Ice cream, maybe?"
