Arielle quietly entered the cafe. She had recognized the girls talking outside, but didn't feel she knew them well enough to say 'hello'.
Blue and silver eyes immediately fell on a booth that had an amazing view of the pond. It was were she always sat. With a soft smile painted across her lips, Arielle took a seat at the booth. She patted the table to signal for Rooker to sit down.

[[lol, well, feel free to bring Teddy round still if you like - and sorry this took a bit; I didn't notice you'd posted! Bad, bad me.]]
Rook slipped into the cafe after Arielle, correcting his backpack on his shoulder nervously. He was alone with a girl at a cafe! He couldn't believe it! Was this a date? No, she had just asked for some help. She'd probably just tell her goodbye and thanks after he'd helped him and then...
Should he ask her out? What if she'd say no? Where would he take her? What would his mother say? She was too pretty for him.
Rook felt quite at a loss with himself as he followed Arielle to the booth she chose. He swallowed and sat down on the opposite side of the table. He was a little afraid to speak.
"Uhh, great view?" he said - meaning to say "great view, isn't it?" but it was left halfway, and he ended up sounding like he was asking a question. He felt like hiding his face behind his hands. She must think him stupid, he thought.

"'Mmm." Arielle smiled softly with a nod as she gazed out the window. The Valley was breathtaking at this time of year.
Pulling herself away from the view, Arielle looked at Rooker. Her eyes were smiling as she studied him. "Is it possible to make a Sci Fi story a romantic comedy?"
[lol I thought that might happen. ;) And yay! I shall bring him in.]

Rooker had some trouble keeping himself still when she looked at him, as he was so nervous he nearly wiggled. He couldn't understand how girls could always be so calm, so composed, so... beautiful.
He blushed a little around the cheeks at her question, and averted his eyes to the table.
"Uhhh, why not," he answered, then dared to pick up his eyes a little. "I mean, sure. Science Fiction doesn't really have any genre restrictions. There's a lot of comic Scifi written, anyway, I have a collection of the best comic scifi, actually, one was about this alien who came on Earth and revealed that Christianity was in fact a misunderstanding between humans and a race of travelling salesmen, who had appeared to humans in the form of angels." He realised he was talking far too fast, and closed his mouth and forced himself to a stop. "So... anyway... yeah."

[lol That's so awesome!]
Laughter spilled out of the teen as Rooker spoke. For some reason, the story he had been describing really struck a note with Arielle. "Oh," She tried to compose herself. "I think I like those salesmen."
Coughing and straightening herself out, she leaned onto the table, getting closer to the boy. "Alright, before we begin anything... we have to have characters."

Rooker got some confidence from her reaction. She seemed to think he was funny. In a good way. He knew many people thought he was funny - in a bad way. But she seemed like she maybe understood. She wasn't one of the loudest girls, anyway.
Coughing and straightening herself out, she leaned onto the table, getting closer to the boy. "Alright, before we begin anything... we have to have characters."
Rooker gulped a few times very quickly, meeting her gaze with wide eyes.
"Ummm, yeah." He fingered the sleeves of his shirt nervously. "Lovers." He blushed faintly, when he suddenly noticed a waitress walking past them smile to them in a meaningful way. She thought they were an item. Rooker looked at Arielle's eyes again. He realised he had himself leaned a little over the table, and tore himself upright in a quick jerking motion, put his hands in his lap and looked uncomfortable.
He really wasn't very good with girls.

A bright smile slowly spread across Arielle's lips. "Yes, lovers." She too noticed the waitress, and picked up on her smile. The gesture wasn't that bad. I mean, they seemed to have at least a few things in common.
As Rooker suddenly pulled himself away, Arielle found herself a bit startled. It became obvious then that she had to relax him. "Want to go for a walk?"

Rooker was not easy to relax at this point.
"Ummmm yeah if you want to." He looked at her from under his brows, almost like a little boy who had done something wrong. He was fiddling with his fingers under the table. Why would a gorgeous girl like Arielle pay attention to him? Poor humble Rook? The boy who no one ever noticed.
He'd have to tell his online friends about this when he got home!

"I do." Arielle smiled as she stood stood. She signaled to an middle aged waitress, implying that she'd like for their books and backpacks to be watched. The waitress smiled and nodded, the two had known each other for quite some time now.
Not feeling the need to speak, the girl simply turned and headed out of the cafe. Their first stop would definitely be the pond. Feeding the ducks and swans always helped to calm her nerves.... maybe it would help for Rooker, too.

Rook followed Arielle, hesitant and a little panicked, but hopeful. The girl hadn't shown any signs of disliking him yet. Maybe it'd all be all right. He followed after her rather like a little puppy might, eager to please but unsure how to do it.
He tried to concentrate on the ducks and the swans when they got to the pond. It occurred to him that there was still something left of his lunch bread - which was getting dry anyway. Hurriedly he dug out the little packed bread and unwrapped it from the foil. Then he smiled to her and offered her a half.
"To feed the birds," he suggested with a boyish smile.

Arielle looked over to Rooker as he offered her a piece of bread. Sure enough, a huge smile appeared as she gently took the piece of bread. "Thank you."
Breaking off bits, she threw them into the water. Swans and ducks quickly made their way to the new food source. Squawking filled the air and Arielle couldn't help but to giggle. She felt like a little kid when feeding the birds.

Rooker smiled happily when Arielle took the bread and started feeding the birds. He did the same, and also had to laugh when the ducks and the swans came over to eat.
"Look at that one!" he exclaimed when one of the male ducks started to bat its wings furiously and arch his neck and threaten the others away, even the bigger swans. "He's a greedy one, isn't he?"

Arielle's eyes went wide as she watched the male duck flap his wings and squawk. After a moment, she began to laugh. "Indeed. He's putting on quite a show."
She threw some bread at the duck to try and settle him. But, of course, more ducks just had to come. "You'd think that they never get fed."

Rook laughed as well, though it was still his usual shy boy's laughter, and then he looked at Arielle from under his brows.
"I understand how he feels," he said before he thought it through. Then he blushed and looked at the ducks again. "I mean... pretty girl coming to give them food - that probably doesn't happen every day."
It was clumsy, but it was one of the first tries at flirtatious compliments he had ever made in his entire life.

Arielle's mouth opened as if she were going to say something, but then close. She just looked at Rooker for a moment with a soft smile.
Sure, she had been hit on before, but not by anyone she'd ever be interested in. Until now.
"Really?" She tilted her head and looked down at the last bit of bread in her hand. Silver and blue eyes glanced up at the boy. "Thank you."
