Rook had been sitting on his bed with the phone for half an hour already. He had the paper Arielle had given to him lying on the bedsheet next to the phone, and she had picked up the receiver several times, but always set it down again. His online friends had told him to wait at least until Saturday evening until calling her. He didn't want to sound pathetic or needy, did he? But now he couldn't wait any longer, though one of his friends had told him to hold off until Sunday. But he wanted to ask if she wanted to go out on Sunday. Her mother would be gone for most of Sunday, visiting friends, so she would not be breathing down his neck the whole day.
What would she say? Would she really remember him? She had kissed him, hadn't she? That had to mean something, yes? Girls didn't do things like that just without any reason. And he didn't want to think that Arielle would be playing with him. She didn't look like that kind of a girl. No, she must have meant it all.
He took a deep breath and picked up the receiver and brought it to his ear. His hand reached out for the phone dials. Then he realised how badly it was shaking, and let it fall down again and closed his eyes. Again he breathed in and out slowly, trying to calm himself. It was just a phone call.
Well, the first phone call he had made to a girl to ask them out.
He opened his eyes and looked at the phone intently. Now or never. He needed to do this. Decisively he again reached out for the dials, not minding the shaking this time, and dialled the number. He felt as though he had suddenly become a salt statue as the phone beeped. But he didn't put the receiver down. He wasn't about to sound like a creep by calling and hanging up. He just hoped it would be Arielle who answered and not her parents. What would he say to her parents?

Arielle slowly turned away from her canvas. The sound of her phone ringing had brought the girl from her revere. Setting down her mixing tray, she picked up the phone that was sitting beside her and answered it.
"Hello?" She wedged the phone between her shoulder and head as she began to tab her brush against the canvas. Her mind was still in the clouds as she stared blankly at the painting. There was something off about the face she was looking at...

Arielle's voice was like the chiming chords of an angel's harp in Rook's ears. He started grinning stupidly as he listened to her voice replaying over and over again in his head after she had gone silent.
He was happily hugging the phone against his ear, not realising that he had not yet said anything.

Arielle straightened up and grabbed the receiver. Silence wasn't what she had been expecting. "Hello?" There wasn't a single trace of anger or annoyance in the girl's voice... just confusion. Who would call and then not answer?

Rook vaguely registered that Arielle had repeated her greeting. It sounded confused. Why was it confused?
Then he realised that his "hello my gorgeous goddess" had in fact never left his lips. He blushed from the collar up to the hairline and suddenly realised that his mother could in fact walk in at any moment to ask if he wanted cookies or something.
Oh, God, he thought to himself, this was such a bad idea.
He opened his mouth. Then his courage failed and his hand jerked to put the receiver down... then he realised that he had called already and if he didn't say anything she might become afraid it was some pervert. And then again, what if her phone could track the caller number?
No, he had to say something. Anything. He swallowed and opened his mouth again as he put the receiver back on his ear.
"Uh," was the only thing he managed to start with. His voice sounded shrill to his own ears. "Ar... Arielle? I-it's, it's me, uh..."
He realised he could not, for the life of him, manage to recall his own name. Girls really had a bad effect on him.

As soon as the first 'uh' left the boy's mouth, Arielle knew who it was. Instantly she smiled brightly and set down her paint brush.
"Rooker!" Her smile grew even wider. She had begun thinking that the boy would never call her. "How have you been?"

[[haha that's so cute "as soon as the first 'uh' left the boy's mouth, Arielle knew who it was".]]
Rook was filled with happiness when Arielle recalled his name for him. He started to grin as well. She remembered him! Had she waited for his call? He would have died to find out.
"I... I'm good. I've been... I've been... I was going to call you. So I called you." That didn't make any sense in his own ears, either, but he was too much in a rush to get to finish what he wanted to say to care. "Will you go out with me tomorrow?"

[lol What can I say? She adores the kid. :P]
"I was wondering if you'd call." Arielle glanced at her painting. Rooker's face smiled at her from the canvas, and she couldn't help but to grin.
However, her grin was replaced by shock when Rooker spoke. After a minute of silence, her face was covered with an enormous smile. "Of course!" She then realized that she had more or less yelled the response. Her face turned red and she chuckled. "Sorry.."

[[awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww how cute she's painting him!]]
Rook jumped a little at the near-shouted reply. But a grin came over his own lips as well, and he almost jumped up and down on the bed.
"That's great!" He didn't even acknowledge the "sorry". The main point was that she had said yes. "Shall I... I'll pick you up tomorrow, then, yes?"

Arielle was beaming as Rooker spoke. God.. she really liked this guy. This was all so new to her, but she loved every second of it.
"That would be nice, yes." She smiled and let out a silent squee like most girls did in movies when talking to their love interest. Tomorrow was going to be wonderful.. she could tell.
[Oh, I'm fine with jumping to Halloween. I am greatly anticipating it. lol]

[[me too!! I guess we'll just play the phonecall to the end and leave it at that, then. ^-^]] Rooker was still grinning widely. "I'll be there around midday," he said, and wouldn't let go hugging the phone receiver. He was reluctant to end the call. It would have meant stopping to hear her beautiful voice. Again he forgot himself silent.

[Indeed. ^^]
"Excellent. I'll be waiting." She giggled and listened to the silence on the other end. Rook was just too precious. "See you tomorrow, Rook."

Rook hung onto the silence a few more moments before realising it was his turn to change it.
"Oh! Yeah, right... uh, see you tomorrow," he finally managed, and then quickly put the receiver down and ended the call. He was still quite red in the face, but the smile was happy.
He had a date!! An actual real date!
Suddenly he rushed up from the bed and went to the computer.
He opened a chat window and started typing.
[[if it's of any interest, his chat-name is Spock. *grin*]]

[lol That's so cute.]
Arielle let out a loud squeal as she clicked the 'off' button on her receiver. She couldn't believe it. One of the cutest boys (in her opinion) in school had just asked her out on a date! Things couldn't get any better.
