GingerSnap had barely made it through that first day back. It wasn’t that her classes were horrible or she hadn’t seen any of her friends. No she’d actually lucked out pretty well this year as far as classes went. She even had one or two close friends in every class.
Her dad was gone again. But that was no surprise. When was he ever home? One of his factories in Europe had a problem, so he’d left early last week. Her mom was absorbed in her garden, like always. The staff at home was busy, or at least pretended to be when her mom walked in. That blasted chef though. One more ‘highness’ out of him and Snaps swore she’d lose it and strangle him. Oh her mother would just love that.
So instead of going home and facing the ‘aw, did highness have a bad day’ question from Rico she had wandered around on the outskirts of the forest for a little while before coming to sit where she was.

The warmth of the sun on her back, Snaps slipped her legs out from under her and sprawled in front of the river on her side. Brown eyes stared at the blue river; watching tiny ripples come and go as the water moved, going nowhere in particular. Tucking an arm underneath her head the heiress began to nod off. The river acting much like a sleeping pill to the over-tired girl.

With his guitar safe in its case and slung over his shoulder, Slugger walked through the woods, heading for the sound of the river. He liked coming out and sitting by the flowing body of water and playing the guitar, singing along to his favourite songs as he strummed the chords. Every now and then he played from his own head, letting his fingers decide on their own what they wanted to play, coming up with a melody and making up words. He never wrote anything down, though, he just played to pass the time and keep his mind open.
Sitting down with his back against a rock he took his guitar out, his fingers caressing the wood of his acoustic guitar. It had been his Christmas present two years ago even though he'd wanted an electric. But his parents had made him agree that if they were going to buy him an electric, he would have to learn things the right way first.
So after two years of diligence and patience, taking lessons and not giving up, his parents had bought him an electric guitar. After two weeks of playing only the electric, he had found himself being drawn back to the familiarity of his acoustic. So putting his fingers to the neck and pressing down he began strumming away to his favourite song, Nirvana's "Polly". He hadn't noticed that anyone else was here, he'd been waiting all day to come to the river and play.

The sound of a guitar playing began to wake the teenager from her slumber. Was it real? Or was she only dreaming she heard a guitar playing? Eyes opening she blinked a couple of times having forgotten how bright the afternoon sun was on the glistening water. Lying still for a moment she listened, wondering if she had imagined it. But again the sound of a guitar being played met her ears. Sitting up she turned her head to see if she could spot from where it was coming. But most importantly, who was playing it. For a second she thought that maybe it was Tripp. But no, that definitely wasn’t his style. So who was playing? Standing GingerSnap began to walk towards the music. The tune was a familiar one. Stepping on a twig she wanted to kick herself. Why not just set off some firecrackers and hit a large metal drum while you’re trying to sneak up on someone. Snaps silently called herself, ‘blunderhead’ and wondered if whoever it was had heard her.

Slugger was so into his song that he hadn't noticed the snapping twig, or at least he hadn't thought twice about it. Probably just an animal. Even if it was a person he wouldn't have cared, he didn't mind if anyone overheard him play. He was hoping for fame in the music industry anyway, so he might as well get used to it now.

Not seeing anyone jump or ask, "who's there", Gin figured the person either hadn't heard her or didn't care. Brushing a lock of hair from her face she glanced around the rather large area. A person could hide almost anywhere here. And than she saw the figure, it was slightly bent over. Obviously concentrating. In a few long strides she was standing behind the rock. Putting her hands on top she leaned over, brown eyes looking straight down at the familiar figure.
"Having a private jam session?" GingerSnap asked her voice soft.
[Would they know each other?]

(They wouldn't be close friends, but they would know of each other at least, since Slugger is on the soccer team and is a friend of Ace's, so Gin would have seen him around often if she hadn't ever talked to him)
Slugger looked up at the voice, the face bringing up the name that the voice hadn't. He smiled up at Gingersnap through his shaggy blonde bangs that fell over his eyes, shaking his head. "Nope, not private. Just secluded." He grinned at her before looking back at his guitar, his fingers strumming along of their own free will now.
He knew of her, having seen her around often, it was hard to miss the spoiled rich kids after all. They hadn't really talked much, though, if ever. He screwed up his face a little in concentration, trying to remember if they ever had talked before...

[All right. Thought they'd have seen each other around if nothing else.]
GingerSnap smiled, letting her body lean more against the rock. He wasn't so bad to look at. The bangs in his eyes were rather adorable. Keys had worn his hair like that for a while. Gin honestly wished he still did.
"It sounded good." Snaps stated sincerely, "Do you write a lot of your music?" The girl questioned not recognizing the notes that currently drifted through the air.

Slugger shrugged, leaning back against a rock and looking up at her. "You could say that. I don't really write anything though, I just play and stuff comes out. Though I guess if I ever do intend on making it big I really should start writing some of this stuff down." He grinned. "Thanks, though. I haven't really played for many people yet, so it's good to know you don't think I suck."

"You should." Gin stated simply, "You've obviously got a real knack for it."
Pushing herself up from where she was leaning against the rock, she brushed the leaves and dirt, that had clung to her arms, off.
Moving so she was in front of Slugger she asked, "Mind an audience of one?"
Truthfully she hoped not. She didn't feel like going home. For that matter she didn't feel like being anywhere just than.

Slugger smiled and motioned for her to sit down. "Have any requests? I usually just play Nirvana, they're my favourite band after all, but I really ought to start branching out more, you know? I studied guitar for two years so my parents would buy me an electric guitar, but now I never even bother looking at sheet music, I can usually play something back just by listening to it. Too bad I don't have someone to write my music down for me while I play, definitely stifles your creativity when you have to stop and jot stuff down." He grinned at her as he strummed his fingers over the strings, waiting for her request.

Sitting down on her knees she soon slipped her feet out in front of her. Arms behind her she let her body lean back as she thought for a moment. She could have been an absolute brat and requested something by Santana, but thought better of it. How many people could play like that anyway? At that moment she didn't feel like offending or upsetting Slugger.
"How about Smashmouth." Gin replied, "Doesn't matter what. I'm open to anything."
She had to admit she was impressed. Very few could play something by just hearing it.
"If I could read music I'd volunteer." Snaps chuckled, "But I'm one of those you don't want anywhere near that sort of thing."
The time Tripp had tried to teach her the different notes popped into her head. By the end of the day he was to the point of pulling his hair out by the roots while she had grown agitated. Tripp really just didn't have the patience to teach anyone anything. Why he had tried in the first place was beyond her.

"Smash Mouth it is." He started strumming a few chords, bringing to mind his favourite song off their second album. He hadn't liked the band when they'd first come out, but once he had started playing he'd started liking them more, appreciating some of their music in a newfound way.
He chuckled when she mentioned being bad with music, agreeing that some people just didn't have the knack for it. That was unfortunate, he didn't know what he'd ever do if he lost his music.
"So do you sing at least, or am I singing alone? Do you know the words to I Just Wanna See? I play a mean acoustic version of that song." He grinned and started strumming the opening notes, waiting to see if she'd join him singing or not. He wasn't planning on singing when he made it famous, though, he would just be playing the guitar. But for now it couldn't hurt.

Gin nodded. Sure she could sing. Not necessarily the best. But she wasn't going to crack and squeak all over either. Those lessons she had take for a year weren't all bad. Not that she ever picked up on the whole 'note' thing. Singing lessons had been another of her mother's "well rounded" projects. Sure it was nice to know a little about this and that and to be able to know what someone was talking about, but her mother changed what she thought Gin should learn so often that it was a wonder if the kid ever actually learned anything at all.
One foot hung over the other she began to lightly move it as Slugger began to play.
Gin opened her mouth and began to sing along with Slugger, "A planet on the go. It's ok watching the weeds grow. And if you listen ..."

Slugger was happy that Gin had decided to sing too, it would have been a little awkward if she just chose to listen instead. So he played and sang along with her, happy that she knew the words and impressed that he remembered them. It had been a while since he'd listened to it.
As he came to the end of the song he looked over at her, grinning happily. "Well, to my well-tuned ear that didn't sound half bad!"
