Sweetheart was sitting right outside the little cafe, at a nice spot overlooking the lake, on a little stool. In front of her, she had the painting holder, with a canvas attached to it, and she had all her painting appliances around her. The picture was already nearly done, she had been working with it for several hours now. Of course she had begun the painting several days ago already, and today she was determined on finally finishing it.
She stopped painting for a moment and leaned back in her stool. She had some blue paint on her cheek and a concentrated expression on her face as she examined the painting and then looked over to the scenery she was painting.
This was her secret refuge. She always came to Don Valley to paint, mostly because she didn't want her mother see her doing it. Her mother always wanted her to pursue more academic careers, she was dead afraid that she would end up as a poor artist making her living in some street corner. Her father was less worried as he expected her to marry off to some nice Italian boy and be taken care of for the rest of her life.
Sweetheart wasn't sure herself what she wanted of her life. These moments when she came here to paint were one of the times when she tried thinking it through.
[[if someone wants to join her accidentally or otherwise, it's quite welcome; she does have her cell phone with her if someone wants to contact her or something.]]

Her mother was working. The twins were playing at a friend's house. The band, what band? She was kidding herself. They barely talked to one another these days let alone practiced.
Head down, arms loosely at her sides she walked staring at where her feet stepped. Melody didn't have a clue where she was. She just started walking and hadn't stopped. Stopping, she glanced up for the first time since she had gone for her little walk. Her neck was stiff and sore from being in the same position so long and she silently cussed at herself for keeping her neck in that position for so long.
Out of the corner of one eye she thought she saw someone she recognized. Turning her head to get a better look she ignored the jolt that went through her neck. Sweetheart. How long had it been since the two had talked? Melody wasn't sure it was such a great idea to try now.

Sweetheart examined her painting quietly. She wasn't particularly happy with it, though it was really rather good. But when it came to art, she was a perfectionist. She sighed and turned a little to pick up the blue tube to refill her colour plate. It was then that she noticed a familiar shape. She looked up, surprised, and squinted her eyes. When she recognised Melody she was instantly delighted and waved.
"Hi, Melody!" she shouted happily, forgetting that the tube she was holding in the hand she waved was open. She accidentally squirted it, and some of the blue paint splashed on top of her head. She screamed and dropped the tupe. "Yieach!"

Melody thought of quietly going back the way she came. Hearing Sweetheart say hi, she froze where she stood. Lifting one hand up she waved feebly.
It had been so long since the two had talked and Melody wasn't really if Sweetheart had forgiven her for losing herself that first year in high school. It seemed there were a few that were still mad at her about it. Maybe mad wasn't the right word, disappointed maybe was a better word. She was disappointed in herself. Among other things.
Taking a deep breath Mel took a chance, "Hi Sweetheart. Whatcha working on?"
Seeing the paint go flying on top of Sweetheart's head Melody reached for some napkins to help clean it up. She chuckled softly. Not really at Sweetheart, but at the fact that her brothers had done the same thing only just last week.

Sweetheart smiled sheepishly to Melody when she took the napkin and tried wiping herself clean.
"Oh, now I have to dye my hair blue," she sighed over-dramatically, and then smiled warmly again. She was not one to hold grudges, and all she remembered was how fun she and the rest of the girls had had when they had been young. She had missed her dearly during high school, and was happy to get the opportunity to talk to her again.
Well, Sweetheart would probably forgive even Attila the Hun.
"I'm just relaxing my nerves," she said by way of an answer, glancing back at the painting again. "It's almost done, though I'm not really very happy with it. The sky is always a different blue when I come here and it makes it difficult to get it right."
In truth, the painting was astonishingly good. Sweetheart had been half-secretly practicing arts for the past years, and had developed rather good in painting and drawing.
She looked at Melody again.
"I'd hug you, but I don't want to mess your clothes," she said with a happy smile. "I'm so happy to see you again! It seems like it's forever since the last time! I can't believe we even go to the same school, it's like we never meet nowadays."

A hot cup of coffee dangled in one hand as a cigarette rested in the other. Teddy wasn't quite ready for this chilly weather. Why couldn't he live somewhere like California?
Blue eyes scanned the area. He had no idea what brought him to the Valley, but there he was. As he took a drag of his cigarette, Teddy's eyes fell on Sweetheart. Immediately, the awful habit was discarded onto the pavement as he began to walk toward her.
"Long time, no see." Teddy winked at the girl as he placed a kiss on her head, avoiding the blue paint. In fact, they had been seeing one another more often than anyone could guess. "What happened here?" His voice was a chuckle as he picked at a blotch of blue paint.
He could see a girl in the corner of his eye. Turning to see who it was, Teddy was hit by a wave of shock. "Melody?" How long had it been since the girl was seen with their child hood friends? It seemed so long ago.

The sudden appearance of Teddy got Sweetheart blushing faintly over the cheeks. She looked at him, slightly flustered - she couldn't help it, she hadn't expected to see him, and covered in paint to top it all! She smiled.
"I was just saying hi to Melody," she explained, unconsciously brushing back a lock of now-blue hair. "And I squeezed the tube accidentally." She had to smile a bit coyly to him. "Think blue hair might suit me?"

Teddy's attention was brought back to Sweetheart as the girl explained her current situation. He smiled warmly at the redhead. "You'd look good in any color."
Oh, the corniness of it all. Teddy couldn't believe how cheesy he had gotten over the past month. It was so bad, that it was good.

Sweetheart had to blush as she smiled. She looked down, all glowy and happy. Teddy had been so nice to him lately. So polite and like a real gentleman. Sweetheart was beginning to think he should invite him home for dinner and introduce him to his family properly. Of course they knew him already, from way back, but they had been children then. Now things were changing. Sweetheart hoped from the bottom of her heart that they were changing to the direction she wished. She mumbled some sort of a thank-you, or at least it was meant as a thank-you. [[an important question: has he even once kissed her on the lips a) in public, b) at all after they, uhh, consummated their relationship ]]

[[I'd say that he has only kissed her on the lips a couple of times since they um.. knocked boots. >;P And one of those times could have been.. like.. downtown at a park or something. Is that ok?]]
Teddy smiled as he looked over Sweetheart's shoulder. His blue eyes went wide as they were greeted by an incredible work of art. He knew she dabbled in painting, but damn.
"You did that?" He felt so proud of the girl, and it showed. "That's a fucking photograph."
[Haha, I had to steal a line from "The Notebook"]

[[yep that's quite ok ^-^]]
Sweetheart's shy smile turned into a happy and overflowing one.
"Well, it's just little something I, uh, been working with," she said, shrugging her shoulders. But she was pleased, and it showed. She looked at him from under her eyelashes. "You really think it's any good? I've been thinking..."
She closed her mouth and blushed. She hadn't really told anyone of her dream of becoming an artist. She knew her mother didn't really approve. At least not for as long as she wasn't properly married to a well-to-do husband, who could afford to support her and she never needed to worry of her income.

"It's amazing." It really was. If the girl didn't know that, then she was beyond help at this point.
As Sweetheart's voice trailed off, Teddy smiled softly. She was so shy at times. "Thinking about what?"

Sweetheart looked up with her large eyes - larger even than usually, as she was slightly hesitant.
"I... uh... I've been thinking of becoming an artist," she said. "Trying out for art school, maybe. Or something. I don't know. Mother doesn't think it's a good idea."

"Really?" Teddy smiled. "I think you should go for it. By the looks of it, you'd be a shoe-in." Thinking over what Sweetheart had said, his smile softened and became a little... sad. He knew exactly how she felt.
Reaching out a hand, he rubbed her back in a comforting manner. "Don't worry about your mom." He shook his head. "If she throws you out, you can always live with me." It took everything Teddy had not to crack a smirk or chuckle at that last comment. He had to lighten things somehow.

Sweetheart smiled to Teddy. He was such a sweetheart. She giggled when he mentioned her mother throwing her out.
"Oh I don't think that'd happen," she said. "It's my dad who kicks people out of the house, not my mom." She smiled to him and then touched his hand gently. "But I do appreciate the offer."
In fact, the offer made her heart beat a little faster. She figured he had meant it as a joke, but something inside her was animated by the thought. Living with Teddy!
She wanted again ask him if they were dating. She still wasn't sure.
