[[just writing this for my own amusement. Someone can of course bring a character to meet him if they want, but my main point is just to trace his steps after he left Chip for dead]]
Vinnie still didn't realise there was anything fishy going on behind him as he steered the Rosacci boat to the boat docks. He didn't look behind him even once. He knew Chip could swim, and certainly one of the people on the other shore saw what happened. He thought darkly that he'd probably get fired from his job at the pizza place because of this. Oh heck. Who cared? Who cared about anything? The world was rotten.
The boy stopped the boat at the docks and got out. He took care to tie the boat down decently and not to leave the keys into the lock. He knew better than to mess with the Rosacci family property. Tin would be angry if he had to buy a new boat because the nephew of his best friend felt shitty.
After tying down the boat Vinnie stared back toward the direction he'd come from, the cigarette still dangling from his lips. He squinted his eyes and thought he saw some bustle going on there with some boat around the place he'd left Chip in. It was too far to really interest him any more than to make sure his cousin was going to get rescued from the water.
He had to admit he felt rather bad as he started walking out of the docks. He hadn't meant to lose his temper like that, and even less had he meant to attack Chip like that. He wondered what Mario'd say. Vinnie bristled a little at the thought of having to admit to his uncle that he'd thrown his cousin overboard like that. Hopefully Chip would forgive him. Otherwise there was no telling what would happen.
The only bright spot in Vinnie's mind was that Scarlet would probably take his side. Scarlet had hit her eyes on him when he'd arrived in town, and though Vinnie hadn't really dared to get involved with his uncle's wife, he had flirted abundantly with her. Perhaps, if she still had some sway over her husband, she could help him.
And then, if he got to the house and told Mario what had happened before Chip had the chance, maybe he'd manage to present things to his own advantage. And what was that business with the blond, anyway? Mario'd probably forgive him if he mentioned gay stuff. And if Chip tried to defend himself, well, he'd best be careful with his words not to be misinterpreted.
Vinnie threw the practically fully burned cigarette stub into the sea on his way away from the docks and fumbled for another from his pockets. He lit the cigarette and started walking, his hands in his pockets. Yes, he ought to go to Mario's first.
