Meadowlark looked at Skale's picture with great interest, with curiosity rather than evaluation. She was happy that Clover had mentioned his name first - she was afraid she might get asked, as she was sure she had heard the name before but didn't remember anymore.
She smiled when she put down a slender finger on the picture and traced the boy's outline with it.
"He's handsome," she complimented her sister's choice. Then she looked at her sister a little apprehensively. "And... I guess he's a good guy?" She blushed a little. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to doubt, I know mom can overreact, but I am just worried about you, sis. I know... friends who haven't had it so well with older men."
Cheval was older than she was, though not so much by years, much in experience. And she was afraid it might have been the biggest mistake she had made in evaluating him. Her own fears and anxieties were reflected into her sister's relationship in her mind.

Clover smiled, looking very happy as she thought about her boyfriend. "He's awesome, Lark. Trust me, you'll love him. He's a sweet guy but he's not a total faker like the majority of the dance community, you know? He's honest all the time, even if it means him acting like a jerk." She grinned-- while he had never had any arguments with her, she had witnessed him arguing with others and it amused her to no end. He had a very strong will. "Just reserve judgement until you meet him. You'll find mom has no reason to dislike him other than the fact that she thinks he's tainting the ideals of her little girl."

Meadowlark tried to force away her fears and anxieties, and try to believe her sister. She smiled in her own gentle way.
"He sounds like an... interesting person," she said, still just a tiny bit cautiously. "And you know, Clo, so long as you are happy, I won't judge him at all. But if... if ever anything happens... promise me you won't let him get his way with you in any way."
She heard still her own experience echoing in her voice. But she couldn't help it.

Clover picked up the note of uncertainty in her sister's voice, looking at her. "Lark, is everything okay?" She couldn't shake the feeling that either her sister must have witnessed someone deal with a bad relationship, or she'd had one herself. She had noticed that Cheval had seemed more than a little forward in his comments tonight, could their relationship maybe be rocky right now?

Meadowlark realised she was letting too much on. She wasn't sure if she wanted to go there just yet, so she tried to smile.
"It's all right," she said. "I guess I have inherited the overprotective streak, is all." She smiled more convincingly. "So will I get to meet this Skale at the performance? Didn't you say you dance together?"

Clover frowned when her sister brushed the topic aside-- she was the type of person who latched onto someone's problem and needled them until they spilled everything. But seeing as how it was her sister's first day back home after years, she decided for once to let it go. At least for now.
"Of course you'll be meeting him at the performance, he's my partner, well when I dance with a partner. A male partner. That's actually how we got together, through dancing. We started together last year and went suddenly from casual friendly dance partners to horny and in love dance partners. But don't tell mom I said that, she'd freak if she knew I've had sex." Clo wasn't really sure why she had blurted it out to her sister, maybe it was the fact that she'd had to keep the seriousness of her relationship with Skale so tightly under wrap from her parents that she had just been dying to tell someone about how great it was.

Meadowlark blushed hot-red as soon as the word "horny" slipped Clover's lips. She moistened her lips a little, trying not to look as embarrassed as she felt. She had always been a good girl, and in Cheval's company had not really changed. Words like "horny", "sex" and the like were not part of his vocabulary, and hence not hers.
Still, she wasn't prude that way. Though she was embarrassed, she giggled and looked at her sister almost as though she had just told her she had accomplished a great feat.
"Oh, my," she said. "I can just imagine mother's face if she heard. Her innocent little Clover. Do you know, I sometimes think she never planned you to marry or move out from home." She paused for a moment, then a mischievous little smile crept over her lips as a bit of girliness returned into her, through the positive effect of Clover's company. "Is he any good?" she asked meaningfully, with an almost hushed voice.

Clover grinned and nodded her head, "yeah mom was probably gearing up to send me off to a convent or something, given the way she reacts to me and guys. She even says that she thinks I'm too young to be dancing with a male partner! Can you believe that? The woman's got some serious issues when it comes to letting me go. Then there's dad! While he's not as bad as mom, I'm sure you remember well how dad reacts to boyfriends. He'd probably try to break his legs or something." Clover laughed, knowing her father really would overreact at first.
When Lark asked the question though, Clover returned the mischievous smile. "He's amazing, very creative, this one. Oh, how he has educated me in the ways love, sis." She laughed at her own corny reply, before getting a little serious again. "Really, though, he's absolutely wonderful in every way. Plus our relationship just adds to our chemistry on stage, so it all works out in the end."

Meadowlark smiled and agreed wholeheartedly on what Clover said about their parents. Yes, both of them could indeed overreact - in many ways. Though within, she had to admit she wasn't sure if she wished they would have overreacted when she first brought Cheval home. But then, Cheval had been so perfect.
Clover's answer made Meadowlark giggle a little, though she, too, got serious toward the end of what she was saying. She nearly slipped a "that's how Cheval and I were in the beginning", but managed to bite her tongue before it came out. She took a breath and sighed with a smile.
"Oh, I know how that feels," she said, with a smile that for once managed to be real, as she recalled the happy times at the beginning. She suddenly realised that she was half not talking about her sister at all. Quickly she recovered from her memories and smiled to her sister. "I'll be curious to see you two on stage together. And don't worry about what Cheval said... he tends to be preoccupied by work. I'll get there. I don't think our practice schedule has even been set yet."

Clover nodded, noticing even more that something seemed to be distracting Meadowlark. She badly wanted to ask her what she was thinking about and it took so much effort to restrain herself.
She forced herself to smile, remembering that she would have plenty of time later to bug Meadowlark about her problems. "Yeah, Cheval seems like the type to get a little too involved and lost in work. I was like that at first, I actually had a few problem with school last year at the beginning because I was too involved with dancing, but Skale actually convinced me to put dancing aside sometimes when I needed to, and even other times because everyone needs a break now and then. If it hadn't been for him, I'd be exactly like Cheval. Which, I have to admit, is a little scary." She winked playfully at her sister.

Meadowlark went through a short inner struggle to be able to smile to Clover lightly at the mention of Cheval being scary. She was extremely good at hiding her problems from people, but she didn't really want to lie to her family or mislead them, and that made it more difficult to keep the pretence with Clover. But she couldn't stop. She had been doing it too long.
"He sounds like a dream come true," Meadowlark said, then managing a genuine warm smile as she turned to hug her sister. "Oh, I'm so happy for you, sis!"

Clover eagerly accepted the hug, nearly crushing her more delicately built sister in the process. "Oh I'm happy for me too, Lark! I just think sometimes about what life was like for me when I was younger. I didn't feel very connected with myself, you know? It always seemed like something was missing, like I didn't really love what I was doing. But now I do. Best decision of my life, this dancing thing." She realized too soon that she had said more than she'd meant to, that there was the possibility of her sister wondering just what she meant by those words. She had been dancing when Lark had left, when she was not quite so happy as she was now. Should she just tell her sister that she wasn't doing ballet anymore? She really didn't think she would care. But then she did think it would be more exciting if Lark got the chance to see her dance as she realized that her little sister had switched styles.

Meadowlark was an intelligent woman, but she wasn't always the most quick-witted, or deductive. Clover's slip went past her completely, as she thought her sister was referring to a newly sparked enthusiasm in dancing through Skale's involvement. She thought all this very romantic, and smiled happily. "Oh, I look forward to seeing your show, then," she said happily. "If Skale's brought that huge difference to your life, then I can't believe he wouldn't be right for you." [[still wanna continue this? I'm not sure what they'd do next. ]]

[[I'm good with that. Just let me know when you want to write out the show. Meadowlark and Cheval won't be doing anything before that, I think]]
